2025 was a watershed year for myoepithelial carcinoma (MEC) research – and that progress was made possible by you.  

It is with shattered hearts that we share the news that Dr. Brian Van Tine, our beloved MEC principal researcher at Washington University in St. Louis, has passed away.

As 2024 draws to a close, we want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible progress we’ve made together. This year, we’ve witnessed real change in the fight against myoepithelial carcinoma (MEC), and none of it would have been possible without you. 

In 2024, cureMEC was proud to partner with Dr. Brian Van Tine at the John T. Milliken Department of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis.

It was a difficult decision to come to ASCO. It’s an expensive conference in an expensive city. The 5-day conference was filled with keynotes, panel discussions and poster presentations on the latest cutting-edge cancer research.

Last week, our family flew back to Stanford Children's Hospital in CA for Sebas’ next round of cancer scans and follow up appointments.

As 2023 comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate some of the great strides cureMEC made this year.

This summer, we started organizing a major blood drive and fundraising event called "Blood, Bands and Brew for a Cure" which took place last weekend in Albuquerque and was a huge success!

Since last August, Sebas has been getting scanned every six weeks as the doctors have been closely monitoring three nodules in his lungs.

cureMEC, in partnership with Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, is excited to announce that we have awarded a $50,000 “Outside the Box” grant

Last week, Michael, Naomi, Santi and Sebas flew to San Francisco for Sebas’ next set of imaging on his lungs and hand.

A lot has been happening to advance the science of MEC and ultimately find a cure.

Early this year, cc-TDI launched the Myoepithelial Carcinoma Biology & EWSR1 Orphan Cancers Drug Discovery Research Program.

We are so excited to announce that last week we presented the Children's Cancer Therapy Development Institute (cc-TDI) with our first grant in the amount of $67,500!

Today is the anniversary of Sebastián's diagnosis of Myoepithelial Carcinoma (MEC). It is a day we will never forget and that changed our lives forever.

This weekend, Michael traveled to Washington DC so he could represent cureMEC at CureFest for Childhood Cancer.

We are so excited and honored to be in Portland, OR at the Children's Cancer Therapy Development Institute (cc-TDI) headquarters for the first ever Nanocourse on Myoepithelial Carcinoma.

Today, Sebas’ father, Michael, shaved his head to raise funds that will help us find a cure for Sebas’ devastating cancer.
