Fighting for a Cure to End Myoepithelial Carcinoma (MEC)
At cureMEC, our mission is simple but urgent:
to fund and support groundbreaking research that will transform the future for those affected by Myoepithelial Carcinoma (MEC). This ultra-rare and aggressive cancer requires a focused, collaborative effort. Through partnerships with leading research institutions and foundations, we are accelerating the development of targeted therapies, discovering new treatment options, and providing resources and support to families—working together toward a future where no one faces MEC alone.

OUR IMPACT
Spearheading MEC Research and Breakthrough Discoveries
Before cureMEC was founded, no one was researching MEC. Since then, we have spearheaded numerous MEC initiatives at some of the top cancer research institutions.
Grants for MEC Research
Since 2022, cureMEC has invested more than $317,000 in MEC research initiatives—both through our own direct grants and in partnership with the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research. In addition, we’ve successfully leveraged support from leading institutions such as the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center to include MEC in their ongoing, cutting edge rare cancer research projects.
MEC Biobank & Data Commons
In collaboration with the Rare Cancer Research Foundation, we established the first-ever MEC Biobank and Patient Data Commons—a crucial resource for researchers studying MEC. These enable patients to contribute to research, driving progress toward new treatments that will benefit MEC patients.

Fund Research
We raise funds and invest in innovative research projects that explore MEC biology, develop new treatments, and move us closer to a cure. Our grant funding is directed toward high-impact projects that have the potential to make real progress in understanding this ultra-rare cancer.

Collaborate with leading rare cancer organizations.
Through strategic partnerships with leading rare cancer organizations such as the Rare Cancer Research Foundation, CANCollaborate, and Target Cancer Foundation, we are building a global network of scientists, oncologists, and advocates united in our mission to accelerate progress in MEC and rare cancer research. These collaborations ground our work in scientific excellence and fast-track progress through shared knowledge, innovation, infrastructure, patient involvement and collective expertise.
Patient Engagement
We are dedicated to building a supportive community for MEC patients, families, and researchers. Through the MEC Biobank and Patient Registry, we empower patients to actively participate in research, helping accelerate discoveries and improve treatments.
Advocacy
We actively advocate for increased funding and resources dedicated to rare and pediatric cancer research. Locally, we are advocating for legislation in New Mexico that would expand access for rare cancer patients to receive second opinions from national specialists, ensuring they get the expert care they deserve.
